18th July 2018, 10.00 – 11.15
The first H&C News Supply Chain Roundtable took place in April last year at Café Spice Namaste, Tower Bridge, London. The event was held to enable delegate attendees to come together and share their supply chain knowledge and experience across the hospitality and catering industry.
In 2017 event host Cyrus Todiwala OBE opened the day and delegates from around the UK then outlined their own event objectives. Beyond GM, Director, Lawrence Woodward OBE, started the ball rolling and the topic immediately focused on sustainability in the supply chain. One of the over-riding themes that developed through the discussions was the need for more information about sustainability within the supply chain, across all sectors of our industry.
Sustainability Budget Focus
Money and budgets soon came to the forefront of the sustainability discussion and the range of consumer budgets being catered for around the table provided for a diverse range of viewpoints. Delegates providing meals for hospital patients and school children sat next to others providing some of the finest of fine dining.
There were many calls from delegates for greater dialogue between suppliers and buyers and a wish to expand and develop the theme to focus on sustainability.
So, we are pleased to announce that in July at H&C EXPO the dialogue will be expanded and developed with the focus shift delegates asked for, sustainability.
We are also delighted to announce a new sponsor of the roundtable for 2018, Beyond GM.
It is particularly fitting that Beyond GM are now one of the event sponsors, as it was Pat Thomas, co-founder and director of Beyond GM, who in 2016 alongside Cyrus Todiwala first outlined their thoughts to H&C News that would formulate the Roundtable events.
Pat Thomas said of sustainability 2018 taking place within H&C EXPO:
Chefs and others in food service are perfectly positioned to lead the discussion on sustainability and provenance. Our first roundtable in 2017 demonstrated that there was a hunger to explore sustainability issues more deeply, to find out whether new food and farming technologies and processes help or hinder us all in the long run. H&C EXPO promises to be an exciting and unique event and we are really looking forward to playing our part in raising the level of thought and debate on this important issue.”
Cyrus Todiwala OBE was equally pleased with the sustainability focus development saying:
In April last year we sat down and discussed sustainability and its place in the supply chain. There was consensus from all delegates that sustainability now touches every aspect of hospitality and catering needing more air time.
Pat Thomas and I are both committed to sustainability and from discussions and meetings with H&C News we enabled the 2017 event to take place. Sustainability is now rightly centre stage at H&C EXPO, we look forward to working with Beyond GM, Hope & Glory Tea and H&C News to build on 2017 at H&C EXPO 2018.”
